Long ago something fell from the sky and split the land. A thousand years later the kingdoms are rebuilt, and the thing that fell is starting to stir.
Dwarves

Lion-folk
Grass to the horizon, and a city of copper mirrors that turns to follow the sun.
Owl-folk
Old pine forest where it's always nearly night. Talk quietly, or don't talk at all.
Leviathans
The only road between the continents. Its owners sink ships for fun.
The danger in the desert
Human bodies, wide wings, and the bare head of a vulture. They camp high in the desert mountains and come down for the dwarves' herds and grain.
Some nights they go further, into the pyramids, where the old pharaohs were buried with their gold. Not every raider comes back out.
